Jennifer L Mohr is an acrylic painter in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. Jennifer’s landscape paintings of wild, weedy, naturalistic meadows are influenced by the Canadian Prairie she calls home. Expressive mark and color layered in Jennifer’s maximalist style invites the viewer to linger in their own moment of connection with the land. About this collection: In my paintings, I explore my identity and connection to place. I reflect on peaceful moments of solitary introspection in nature and intermingle those recollections with imagined details to create pictures of a place that feel authentic and reflective of my identity. With fast-drying acrylic, I layer immediate and spontaneous marks and glazes, building up on the surface to create depth and interest in my garden-like landscapes. As I paint, I consider relationships between marks, opacity, texture, colour, light, and shadow, manipulating them to deepen the layered sense of place until the painting reaches a balanced familiarity. Ground-level perspective and wild, weedy drifts of rhythmic grasses and plants invite lingering observation and a moment of grounded introspection for the viewer.
